Find A Way To Add Value

Here’s the most important thing to focus on as an employee or entrepreneur to ensure you earn what you are truly worth in your career, or business, if you are an entrepreneur. Henry Ford, who was the founder of Ford Motor Company said, “Wealth is never attained when sought after directly, it only comes as a byproduct of providing a useful product or service.” The whole purpose and reason for a business to exist in the first place, is to add value to people’s lives by providing a useful product or service. If you are an employee, your focus should be on providing more value to your employer and their customers lives than anyone else at the company. As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Make yourself necessary to somebody.” The idea is to show up as the best version of yourself that you can be. By focusing on giving your best personally to your employer, or your own business, you will ensure that you are giving yourself the best opportunity to succeed and make the kind of income that you truly deserve, and are capable of.

When we look at a company like Apple Inc., we notice that the entire company is focused on doing a few things extremely well. The more things a company is focused on, the more disjointed and ineffective the company will be at dominating it’s market. As far as innovation and technology goes, Apple is completely running away with the market. All of its competitors are playing catch-up.

It’s interesting when you look at the history of Apple Inc. and how it was literally weeks away from bankruptcy when it’s original founder Steve Jobs, came back to the company in the late 90s. He bluntly told the management team after he took over during his first strategy session, that their products sucked! They were making all kinds of mediocre products that were not making them any money. He refocused the company into a few core products and discontinued all the other ones that were losing money. In matter of weeks, the company was profitable again once the excess, and garbage products were shed. They have been focusing relentlessly on creating new products that people would love to use ever since. Apple Inc. is now the most valuable Corporation in the world.

So whether you are working for yourself as an entrepreneur, or you’re working as an employee for someone else, if you want to be the greatest success you can be, and earn the income and wealth you truly deserve, you must focus relentlessly on adding more value than anyone else. It’s also absolutely essential that you love what you are doing. If you don’t love what you are doing, you will never be good at it. Why? Passion is what drives us to do great things and to go beyond what is called or asked for, or that could be expected.
