Why confident people make themselves big, and how you can make yourself bigger and more confident through your body language and physiology.
In this video coaching newsletter, I interview Dr. Dominick D’Anna of BeSimplyWell.com. He’s a Network Chiropractic Doctor located in Winter Park/Orlando, FL, USA. How a peaceful physiology enables you to remain unattached and indifferent to your outcome and how this enables you to not only be more successful with women, but in all areas of your life that are important to you. How Dominick changed my life and how he can help you change yours too.
DOMINICK: My name is Dominick D’Anna. Corey is nice enough to have me in a video once again, and this is a fun topic to go over. You teach people how to control their physiology, because that’s such a huge part of meeting people and relationship, and not just in relationship, but how you present yourself in general.
You see the same thing in nature. If you see a snake, a cobra, it makes itself tall, makes itself big and spreads out to show dominance or control. Birds open up their wings to make themselves big. Nature is replete with examples of if you want to display dominance, you make yourself big.
COREY: It’s like I talk about in “How To Be A 3% Man” and like the video I did years ago called “Body Language That Attracts Women” where you sit and take up too much space. They call it “man-spreading,” even though the feminists fucking hate that.
DOMINICK: Sit back and just spread out.
COREY: You know, if you have your hands on your head you’re showing you’re more open.
DOMINICK: Your arms are out, your hands are on your hips. You’re making yourself big. It’s displaying dominance. You know Usain Bolt, they show him winning and he’s got his arms up celebrating, making himself look big. And what he’s doing is, the labs are showing that the cortisol levels are 20% lower just from changing your posture and your physiology. Your testosterone can go up 25% within two minutes.
A lot of us work out because we want to keep our testosterone up, it helps keep cortisol levels low, for overall health benefits. But literally, your posture and how you show up has every bit of those benefits and more, and it’s easy to do, just within two minutes by making yourself big.
COREY: If you look at women, being feminine, submissive, they make themselves smaller. They cross their legs, they put their hands in their lap, their neck gets exposed.
DOMINICK: Their shoulders go forward, head goes forward. You’re trying to make yourself small. As compared to head back, shoulders back, making yourself big. It’s not only with physiology, but also when you speak. When you walk into the room and you have something to say, you’ll be large and in charge.
I’d rather not say anything than talk in a low tone where people aren’t going to hear you responding, because the moment that happens, you’ve just taught them that you’re not the leader. If you want to see where you’re are, look how other people are responding to you.
COREY: Have you got some other facts and figures?
DOMINICK: Leaders, people who make themselves big, they are 86% more likely to move forward in life and take risks as compared to people that make themselves small. And again, these studies that were done at Princeton or Harvard shows that it’s just changing your posture for two minutes.
And you know there’s the old adage, fake it ’til you make it? I say, it’s not fake it ’til you make it. I say it’s fake it ’til it becomes you. And what they’re showing is within two minutes of changing your posture, changing how you breathe, breathing in your chest, shoulders back, head back, that you’re literally changing your cortisol levels — decreasing them between 10-15%. And you’re increasing testosterone 20-25%. That’s huge.
You’re more likely to move forward in life, and you’re more likely to be a leader. Leaders don’t walk in and say, I’m a leader. You act like a leader, and people naturally follow. That’s just how it works out.
COREY: Yeah, it’s like I talk about in “How To Be A 3% Man, a man, masculine energy, is purpose, drive, mission, succeeding, accomplishing, breaking through barriers, overcoming challenges — having something that animates you, that you’re passionate about for your purpose and mission in life. Something that gets you up early in the morning, keeps you up late at night, that embodies that risk-taking Dominick was just talking about.
It’s just naturally part of masculine energy, and that’s why focusing on your mission and purpose is not about making the money. Making the money is the side effect of adding the value. What women find attractive about that is you’re actually, even if you’re not successful today, at least you have an idea of what you want to accomplish in the future, and you’re striving for it. Because that takes risk.
There’s no guarantee that money you invested in a stock or that little side business that you’re building in your spare bedroom is actually going to turn into anything one day. Or that degree you may be getting, going to night school, maybe you want to be a doctor someday or whatever it happens to be. There’s no guarantee that you’re going to be super wealthy and super successful as a doctor. There’s plenty of doctors in the world that get medical degrees and practice medicine, they’re not very successful and they don’t make a lot of money.
DOMINICK: And that’s in every industry. You see it with attorneys, you see it with chiropractors or acupuncturists. You see it with builders, contractors, realtors. I mean realtors are a dime a dozen. Some of them are making millions, and other ones are living in their parents’ garage. So it’s not about what you do. It’s about how you show up.
And if you’re gonna show up man, play big. Hit home runs. Be large and in charge. That’s how nature works. It’s not whether it’s good or bad. It’s just how you should show up. And it’s something that’s well in your control.
COREY: So, with the work that you do, how will that help people become more large and in charge, if you will? How can that enhance their body language and their physiology for their life and how they’re showing up?
DOMINICK: Fun story. I had a dad who was coming in bring his two sons. They were about 8 or 10 years old, and they had their baseball outfits on, you know. They’re playing little league. The dad said, “You know, one of my kids has great posture,” and the kid sat up straight, his shoulders were back. And the other one who was his twin, he was completely hunched forward. His shoulders were forward, his head was forward. It was as if he was trying to play small. His body language was saying he felt suppressed or defeated in some way.
The dad said, “Tell my son here to sit up straight.” Just as he said that, I looked over and the twin that was sitting straight up looked at him and said, “My back hurts looking at you slumped forward.” And the one that was slumped forward looked at him and said, “My back hurts thinking of sitting up straight like that.” So what we realized was, these different states, either large and in charge or feeling suppressed and defeated, are natural.
I mean when life comes around, sooner or later something’s going to happen where you don’t feel on your A-game and you feel like you got it handed to you a little bit. Shit happens, right? But you don’t want to get stuck in it. The work that we do with Network Care helps clean up the tension so you’re not stuck in that pattern. Because, the tension is what holds you and interferes with you going back into your natural state.
You want to see flexibility in the system. It’s okay to feel beat up sometimes. Sometimes it’s appropriate. But you sure as hell don’t want to stay there. And the more we clean up the tension, and make this more and more available, it becomes totally natural.
COREY: I have a good friend of mine. His son was very reserved, partly because of the mother and the two older sisters who are home schooled, they tend to stay home a lot. I remember going in public and he was kind of hiding behind his dad, like scared of the world.
DOMINICK: Yeah, he lacked any kind of certainty.
COREY: After Dominick came down and worked on him, two of his sons and his daughter over a weekend, a couple of weeks later I was talking to him and he was like, “Yeah, he want to laser tag and he was running around, talking to people, interacting with them.” It’s like he was no longer afraid to interact with other people. He was 8 or 9 I think.
Children haven’t had decades of living with muscle tension and stress building up in their nervous system, and so they change real quick. So, especially if you’ve got young kids and you get them in Network Care, it completely changes the trajectory of their life — where they end up 5, 10, 20 years from now.
The same thing with you as an adult. If you clean up your physiology and you drop all the muscle tension in your nervous system, you’re naturally going to expand, become more confident and take up more space, because you’re just going to feel prouder.
DOMINICK: It is our nature to be leaders. Remember, we’re not the garbage left over. We’re the cream of the crop. All the weak have been weeded out over thousands of years that humans have been on the planet. The way I see it, you’re walking around and you’re the best. That is your nature.
COREY: Your birthright.
DOMINICK: That is the way you’re wired. You’re wired to be a leader. You’re wired to show up large and in charge. You’re wired for success, because you’ve made it this far. You sell yourself on why people should invest in you or your company if you’re raising equity for a business. The same thing with women. If you feel good about yourself, and a woman can sense that and feel it in your physiology, she’s going to be way more inclined to say yes. When you don’t really feel it internally, you may be saying the right things, but your body language and your vibe is basically communicating that you’re not worthy, and she’s going to pick up on that. She’s going to feel it.
DOMINICK: She’s going to smell it. They feel it.
COREY: What is it, 70-75% of what we communicate is in our body language.
DOMINICK: It’s nonverbal. Yeah, that’s huge. Show up big, be big, speak big and be unattached to the outcome. Or as Corey likes to say, indifferent. If people don’t receive it well, who gives a shit.
