The purpose of all relationships is that you go there to give. You’re there to help each other grow and become more. If you seek to possess, control or manipulate the object of your affection and desire, they will no longer feel free to be themselves. They will feel like they are losing themselves just by being with you. This will cause them to pull away, cancel dates, give you the let’s just be friends speech, dump you unexpectedly or act flakey and non-committal.
In this video coaching newsletter I discuss an email from a viewer who was dating a woman for about 3 months he met on eHarmony.com. Two days after inviting him to come to Hawaii with her for her birthday, she abruptly changed her mind. A few days after that they had a shouting match argument on the phone and then she hung up on him. She did not return any of his phone calls after that and he wonders why she did a complete 180 in only two days so he can get some closure.
